H&H is providing environmental consulting services for a regional fire training academy in North Carolina impacted with per-and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS).  Based on a request by NC DEQ in 2018 due to use of Aqueous Film-Forming Foam (AFFF) for fire training, PFAS analysis was added to the annual groundwater sampling parameter list. Since 2018 and with multiple DEQ directives, H&H has done the following in an attempt to delineate the extents of PFAS impacted soil, groundwater, and surface water:

  • Installed and sampled 16 shallow and bedrock monitoring wells and 29 soil borings
  • Sampled 15 existing on-site and 10 off-site monitoring wells, 5 water supply wells, and 9 surface water bodies
  • Assisted with cleaning former concrete training pads and an associated foam collection UST
  • Confirmed that new training foams are PFAS-free
  • Removed obsolete AFFF products from the Site for proper disposal
