Project Description

Hart & Hickman removed three regulated waste oil USTs from a trucking terminal in Charlotte. The UST removals were difficult due to the presence of an adjacent building, sewer lines, and an active oil/water separator. H&H and our contractor successfully removed the USTs and 1,200 tons of impacted soil. Impacted soil was removed to meet DEQ target levels known as Maximum Soil Contaminant Concentrations (MSCCs). The soil removal was extended into the smear zone to remove contaminant mass from the top of the water table. After the soil removal action, only a trace level of benzene remained in groundwater. With approval of DEQ, H&H resampled groundwater and did not confirm the benzene detection. Therefore, DEQ issued a No Further Action letter for this incident.
