Project Description

Hart & Hickman performs Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) as well as Phase II sampling and remediation projects for Lowe’s Home Centers, Inc. H&H is Lowe’s lead environmental contractor in the Carolinas. Lowe’s demands quality and thoroughness from its consultants. Lowe’s has comprehensive internal Phase I ESA guidelines beyond ASTM standards that must be followed. The Lowe’s guidance requires checks for asbestos, lead-based paint, historic sites, protected species, wetlands, water supply watershed restrictions, etc. For each Lowe’s project, H&H conducts a site-specific protected species survey and a review for recorded historic sites. These surveys include written correspondence to the US Fish & Wildlife Service, NC Wildlife Resources Commission, and NC State Historic Preservation Office. H&H has completed hundreds of ESAs for Lowe’s. Most of the projects have been related to Lowe’s previously rapid development of new stores in a variety of settings including undeveloped, commercial, and industrial areas.
