Project Description

Hart & Hickman designed closure grading plans and erosion controls for a 10-acre non-hazardous process waste landfill. The landfill has a capacity for approximately 800,000 cubic yards of dewatered process solids generated at a 300-acre chemical plant. Assessment at the site included aquifer testing and receptor surveys. The closure consists of retrofitting the existing storm water basin with a synthetic liner, installing a slurry wall at the perimeter of the landfill, and constructing a cap on a phased schedule. A detailed geophysical delineation of an underlying clay confining unit was performed to verify a slurry wall could be tied into the aquitard as a means to isolate constituents detected in shallow groundwater beneath the landfill.
